Police name Willenhall murder victim

A MAN found dead in a Willenhall park in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24 January) has today been formally identified as 33-year-old Jagjit Singh Villkhu from Willenhall.

Officers are continuing to search the scene, an area of park land between Villiers Street and St Anne's Road, as two people, aged 28 and 25, continue to be questioned on suspicion of murder.

A 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, were released without charge yesterday (Wednesday 25 January).

A forensic post mortem, which took place yesterday, has revealed Mr Villkhu died as a result of head injuries

Officers attended the location after receiving an emergency call shortly before 12:30am.

St Anne's Road currently remains closed between the junctions of Temple Road and Stringes Lane as the murder enquiry continues.

Meanwhile, senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Bullman, from Force CID in Bloxwich, today issued a fresh appeal for witnesses.

He said: "We would be very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened or witnessed anything suspicious shortly before or after the incident took place.

"As part of this inquiry we are looking into a separate incident which is believed to have occurred a short time before Mr Singh died, in the Cemetery Road area of Willenhall.

"We believe an altercation took place earlier in the evening at this location and would urge anyone who may have seen this incident to get in touch with us."

A significant policing presence remains in place at the location this afternoon and neighbourhood officers continue to speak to local residents in order to address any concerns.

Anyone who believes they may have any information which could help the investigation is urged to call Force CID in Bloxwich on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
