DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a woman was attacked and had her car stolen in Wolverhampton last night (Thursday 2 February).

The incident happened at around 6:40pm on Copthorne Road in Pennfields.

Three men approached the 35-year-old victim as she was getting in to her green Volkswagen Scirocco.

They tried to push her into the back of the vehicle however she got away following a struggle. The three men then drove away in the stolen vehicle which has not yet been traced. The victim's handbag and mobile phone were also inside.

The men are described as black and all wore dark blue or black clothing.

The victim was taken to hospital having suffered a broken finger and superficial injuries.

Detective Inspector Gordon Roberts, from Force CID in Bloxwich, said: "This was a terrifying experience for the victim who has been left injured and shaken as a result of what happened.

"We are doing all we can to trace the offenders and would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"I am also keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the three offenders before or after the incident took place.

"While I appreciate that this offence will no doubt cause concern in the local community, I would like to reassure people that these types of incidents are rare and we are following up a number of lines of enquiry to identify the perpetrators."
