St George’s road closures in Halesowen

Motorists are being reminded about a number of road closures in Halesowen during the St George’s celebrations this weekend.
A packed programme of activities is taking place in the town centre on Saturday (April 24) including a parade and street entertainment.
A number of roads will be closed on the day to help keep people safe to enjoy the event. See Map
Road closures in place on the day include Queensway, between Hagley Road roundabout and High Street and High Street between Queensway and New Road roundabout, between 10.15 and 10.45am for the parade.Others include Hagley Road, between Queensway Roundabout and Summerhill; Summerhill, between Hagley Road and Queensway; Birmingham Street, between Peckingham Street and Bull Ring; Bull Ring and Great Cornbow, between 7am and 5pm. Diversions will be in place.
The activities add to the packed programme at the official Dudley Council event which starts with a parade featuring ex-servicemen and women, school children, community groups and civic dignitaries.
The main stage will be based in Somers Square and street entertainment will include magic, balloon modelling and a bouncy castle. There will be a history display in nearby St John’s Church, and an exhibition of medieval armoury and weaponry in Cornbow Shopping Centre.
Dancers can show off their skills at a tea dance from 1.30-4pm at Cornbow Hall. Tickets are free and available by calling 01384 815201. Halesowen Library will be holding storytelling sessions as well as competitions and quizzes from 10am-3.30pm.
St John’s church will be offering tours of the bell tower, demonstrating bell ringing, and hosting historic displays for visitors, from 10.30am-3.30pm.
The Zion Christian Centre will be screening the film Dragon Hunters as part of their celebrations from 12.30pm. Tickets are free, to book call 01384 815201. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The parade will set off at 10.30am from Hagley Road and move along the Queensway and past St John’s Church. The parade will continue along High Street before halting in Somers Square, where the main stage will be based. A number of road closures will be in place on the day.
A St George’s concert has been organised at Dudley Concert Hall on the same day from 7.30pm. It will feature music and singing from The Band of the Parachute Regiment and the Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir.
