Hundreds of people headed to Dudley this weekend for a roaring good time at the Rock and Fossil Festival.
The biennial fossil extravaganza, which ran at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery and Dudley Concert Hall on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September, attracted over 1,500 visitors over the weekend.
The festival is the largest fossil extravaganza in the Midlands and over two days exhibitors showcased everything from rocks, fossils and gems to jewellery and dinosaur books.
Family entertainment including Dudley Zoo’s small animals, a seven metre dragon and an armoury display proved very popular and over 100 children made bird boxes while 125 made their own fossil casts.
Lectures and talks from geology and palaeontology experts from across the country also attracted academics and budding scientists.
Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:
”The Rock and Fossil Festival is always a fantastic family event and this year was no exception. There were wonderful stalls with fascinating rocks, fossils, crystals and models as well as lots of fossil and dinosaur themed crafts.
“I’m delighted that the event was been a tremendous success, thank you to all the families who came along on the weekend.”
