Glorious sunshine and top street entertainment brought the crowds to Halesowen for the annual St George’s celebrations.
Thousands of families flocked to the town centre on Saturday (April 24) for the official Dudley Council event.
The day’s activities began with a parade featuring ex-servicemen and women, school children, community groups and civic dignitaries.
The main stage in Somers Square boasted singing and dance acts while street entertainment included magic, balloon modelling and a bouncy castle. A history display and tours of the bell tower at St John’s Church also brought in the crowds as did an exhibition of medieval armoury and weaponry in Cornbow Shopping Centre.
Dancers showed off their skills at a tea dance at Cornbow Hall, while Halesowen library held storytelling sessions as well as competitions and quizzes.
The Zion Christian Centre ran screenings of the film Dragon Hunters as part of their celebrations.
Visitors to Dudley Concert Hall were also in good voice for a traditional St George’s concert, featuring music and singing from The Band of the Parachute Regiment and the Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir.
John Polychronakis, chief executive of Dudley Council, said:
“The St George’s day celebrations are one of our most popular events attended by people from many different communities.
“It was wonderful to see people in the town centre enjoying the festivities in such beautiful weather.”
