Dudley’s a comedy capital

Dudley is fast becoming a capital of comedy with a long line of the biggest names in the business signed up to perform in the town.

Joe Pasquale’s summer tour will appear at Dudley Concert Hall next month (June 25) while the comedy circuit’s man of the moment, Liverpudlian John Bishop will hit the stage on November 1.

With established TV comedian and star of 8 out of 10 cats, Jason Manford, also on the upcoming bill at Dudley Concert Hall, Black Country stand-up fans need not look any further for a fun night out.

Local comedy hero Lenny Henry appeared in the town on his most recent tour, while veteran performer Ken Dodd has made no secret of his delight of performing to a Dudley crowd. Other big names in recent times have also included Jimmy Carr and Ed Byrne, while popular Cornish comic Jethro performed in Dudley last Saturday.

And on top of this string of big acts, the Dudley Council’s entertainment team are also working hard to give up and coming stars a chance at their hugely popular monthly stand-up show. Kum-n-avaloff is held at Stourbridge Town Hall on the first Thursday of every month.

The show attracts comedians from all over the country looking to make their name on the circuit and gives a chance to locals who fancy a shot at the big time. In the past it played host to a young Alan Carr before he went on to huge success and is now a regular TV host and comedian.

Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:
“Our entertainment team really are pulling out all the stops and the latest line-up of acts really is top class. I hope people from the Black Country area and beyond will realise this and make sure they check out our what’s on listings on the website.”
