How Barclays and Barclaycard are helping customers impacted by the volcanic eruptions

Barclays and Barclaycard are taking some additional measures to support their personal and business customers who are affected by the travel restrictions in place due to the cloud of volcanic ash moving across Europe.

Contacting Barclays
Barclays customers who are stranded abroad, have family stranded abroad or who may be affected by the volcanic eruptions should call our 24 hour helpline on +44 (0)1928 584440.
Barclays customers with a travel insurance claim should call:
Barclays Travel Insurance: +44 (0) 1603 208 412
Additions Plus: +44 (0) 1603 208 033
Additions Active: +44 (0) 1603 603 336
Premier Life: +44 (0) 1273 747 625
Barclays Travel Insurance
In the first instance customers need to contact their airlines who are responsible for either a refund or alternative travel.   Additional costs would not usually be covered by travel insurance but Barclays has been considering claims for delayed departures as a gesture of goodwill and will continue to do so as the situation continues.
All Barclays Travel Insurance policies provide up to 14 days cover free of charge if the customer is unable to return home before their cover ends.  We will review the extension period if required.
Current accounts
Barclays personal customers impacted with an overdraft can ask for a temporary increase to help with emergency costs such as travel or accommodation. Customers without an overdraft can also apply for an emergency overdraft.

We will refund any customers who may incur a fee as a result of incurring additional costs due to the travel restrictions, upon request.

We will also be offering payments (same day and Barclays International Payments) free of charge to customers who are stranded overseas to assist with accommodation and other living expenses.
Access to emergency cash for stranded children/relatives of customers
Customers wishing to send emergency cash abroad can do so via Barclays emergency cash transfer process if the recipient is a Barclays customer or for customers wishing to get emergency cash to non customers, we suggest they contact Western Union.
Barclaycard customers
Barclaycard will consider all requests for credit limit increases from stranded customers sympathetically.

Customers who have incurred a late payment fee as a result of being stranded should call us to discuss this.

If customers cannot get their flight rescheduled or get a refund from their airline, they can call Barclaycard to discuss a refund – claims will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Barclaycard customers should call +44 (0) 1604 230230.
Barclays Business
Barclays Business will be offering a financial support package to all of its affected business customers which include repayment holidays on existing and new loans, and extending overdraft facilities.
Barclays Business customers impacted should contact either their relationship manager or our Barclays Business Support team on +44 (0) 2476 842 091 from abroad, as soon as they can to discuss how we can support them.
Barclays Corporate
Barclays Corporate is also encouraging business clients negatively impacted by the ash fallout to speak with their Barclays relationship director as soon as possible.
For businesses impacted significantly, contingency plans such as temporary overdraft extensions and capital repayment holidays can be implemented. In addition we are offering access to Barclays Corporate meeting and conference resources through the bank’s international network and Latitude Club facilities.
