A fascinating talk at Walsall Museum will shed light on how archaeologists use old coins to find out more about our social, political and economic history.
Coin collecting is still a widespread hobby yet few people realise the importance of old coins in terms of what they tell us about the past.
Coins can be used to date excavation sites and can provide information on trade links and the ruling powers of the time.
Archivist Paul Ford from Walsall’s Local History Centre will be at the Museum’s local history gallery, The Changing Face of Walsall on Tuesday 8 December 2009 to talk through the importance and significance of old coins, drawing on his previous experience in the archaeological field.
This is one of a series of regular talks which take place at Walsall Museum on local, social and costume history.
The talk will take place at the Museum from 2pm to 3pm. It's free of charge to attend, but spaces are limited so advance booking is essential.
