Dudley Council has sold Saltwells House to a joint venture company prompting the regeneration of the popular landmark site.
The house is now owned by a joint venture partnership called PSP Dudley.
Although led and funded by the private sector the council has a 50 percent share in the joint venture which aims to facilitate property and regeneration projects. BVS facilitating Ltd have the 50 per cent private share in the partnership.
Dudley became the first local authority to be involved in such a venture when it signed up to the PSP partnership at the end of 2009. Saltwells House is the first project taken on by the partnership.
The partnership will continue to address the issue of securing the site until development options have been agreed.
It will work closely with the warden service located on the site to ensure that the development is sympathetic to the nature reserve.
Saltwells support groups will be consulted on any future development options.
John Polychronakis, chief executive, said:
“The formation of this joint venture in Dudley, led by the private sector, gives the council access to additional resources to deliver exciting property and regeneration projects around the borough. Saltwells House is the first of a number of projects tackled by the partnership and will not only help develop the site but also ensure the wardens have a new base from which they can continue to deliver their service.”
Richard Smith, BVS Facilitating Ltd, said:
“This joint venture offers regeneration opportunities to the public sector funded by the private sector. It is a partnership initiative and along with providing funds it utilises new and innovative procurement methodology. We are committed to making the Saltwells House project a success.”
