Work is underway on an inspiring state-of-the-art £7.6 million school in Quarry Bank.
The modern, welcoming environment, fit for 21st century learning is being created at Quarry Bank Primary School.
Large flexible learning spaces and corridors will make the building accessible to all and direct access to the outside will add an extra dimension to pupils’ education.
The total cost will be £7.6 million with the majority of funding coming from the government’s Primary Capital Programme. The school is being rebuilt following a review of school property, which found the existing school building, which dates back to the 1930s to be no longer fit for purpose.
The school will be equipped with state of the art technology and IT systems and has been designed to allow as much natural light in as possible.
The design aims to achieve the lowest possible carbon emissions to get an accreditation from BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method), the leading environmental assessment method for buildings.
BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance.
Dave Perrett, assistant director of children’s services, said
“Quarry Bank Primary School and Dudley Council are working together to create state-of-the-art facilities, fit for 21st century learning. We want to have the best possible learning environment that will encourage all children to reach their potential.”
The contractor, Bowmer and Kirkland, anticipates the completion date to be December 2011.
