The headteacher and staff at a Dudley special school have been selected to help raise standards in other schools.
The headteacher of the Sutton School, Dave Bishop-Rowe, is one of only 51 headteachers nationally to be appointed to the role of National Leader of Education (NLE) – a growing group of headteachers identified by the National College.
The National College has identified the headteachers to help struggling schools to improve. Sutton School will become a National Support School and together with the headteacher use its success and professionalism to raise standards in other schools experiencing challenging circumstances.
Any school across the country can ask to be helped by Sutton School and selected staff or the headteacher himself will offer expertise, advice or support to help the requesting school improve.
To mark the occasion Dave Bishop-Rowe will attend a formal induction and training for the role in London this month (May).
Dave Bishop-Rowe, headteacher at Sutton School, said:
“It is a great accolade for Sutton School and we are looking forward to working with other schools by sharing, developing expertise and helping to provide top class education.”
Cllr Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:
“Congratulations to Dave Bishop-Rowe for this recognition of his excellent leadership of Sutton School and to the staff who have also been recognised for their professionalism and expertise. I am sure that they will do what they can to help other schools to improve and bring about benefits to their pupils.”
The total number of NLEs nationally is over 400 and will rise to 500 by 2012.
