Visitors to any borough library will soon be able to borrow and return books themselves as self service technology is rolled out to all libraries.
Dudley Council has plans in place to roll out self service technology at Netherton, Lye, Long Lane and Cradley Libraries.
Once self service has been rolled out to these libraries, the council will have completed its programme to roll out the technology across the service. It is expected to be in place at these libraries by the spring.
Self service will allow library members to borrow and return books themselves. It is also designed to free up staff time so they can focus on helping people in the libraries with queries.
Councillor Adrian Turner, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said:
“The council began its programme to introduce self service technology in 2007 and it had proved extremely popular with many visitors in the last few years.
“It’s fantastic that we are now in a position to roll this out to all libraries. It’s very simple to use and more importantly frees up staff time to help people with any queries they may have.”
