‘Eyesore’ building to be demolished in Walsall

A problem building is set to be pulled down to help pave the way for regeneration.

Lime House off Littleton Street in Walsall is to be demolished with work set to start on Monday September 12.

Fires have been started in the site which stands next to Walsall College.

Drug users have also broken into the site in the past.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Walsall Council cabinet member for regeneration, said the building has been the focus for anti-social behaviour for some time.

He said: “There’s been a lot of unsavoury activity at Lime House stretching back a number of years.

“We’ve taken the decision to pull down the building which will help eliminate the problem.

“Inside the building, it’s an absolute mess. There is little that hasn’t been stolen or set on fire repeatedly.

“Aside from removing a blot on the landscape, demolition also brings us a step closer to the eventual regeneration of that plot of land as it makes it more attractive to developers. This has to be good news.”

Thousands of drivers pass Lime House and the neighbouring Walsall College every day.

A wooden hoarding to promote the site for sale is set to be built around the site after demolition is completed.
