College launches new partnership network to deliver adult learning

Walsall & Adult Community College has launched a new partnership network to deliver education and vocational services in the borough.

Contracts have been awarded to Breathing Space Ltd, Frank F Harrison Community Association, Manor Farm Community Association, Palfrey Community Centre, Pool Hayes Community Association,Steps To Work, Walsall Housing Group Regeneration Team and Willenhall Sports College, following a tendering process.

The new partnership network will support the college's drive to support people of all abilities to reach their potential, gain qualifications and enhance their employability as well as strengthening Walsall's communities and families.

Courses will be provided in a range of subjects that will support these themes including plastering, plumbing and brickwork, adult literacy and numeracy skills, sports and fitness, confidence building and life skills business awareness, maintaining family finances, teaching and training in schools and many others subjects.

The new network will enable current and future learners to study at local venues that are only a walk, bus or bike-ride away.

Councillor Chris Towe, chair of governors at Walsall Adult & Community College said: "Along with our existing partners who have been with us for some time, our new education network will help strengthen our commitment to bring great learning to the doorstep of learners, in environments where they can learn local and go far.

"By helping local people gain qualifications, our partnership can go some way towards improving employment prospects and closing the gap between entry level skills and the needs of today’s employers."

Maria Gilling, college principal added: "We're delighted to welcome our new partners to WACC and look forward to a successful future together.

"We believe that the further education and skills sector can play a pivotal role in helping our learners who are ready to meet the challenges, to develop skills which will enhance their employability."

Diane Bailey from Walsall Housing Group said: "Whg are pleased to be part of the new partnership and are looking forward to engaging with local communities to deliver our innovative ‘Thirst for Learning’ confidence building and life skills programme."

Debra Mohammed, adult education officer for Frank F Harrison CA added: "This partnership will give young people in Walsall, aged 16 to 18 years, the opportunity to improve their practical skills and prospects of employment in the Construction and Catering Industries as well as improving their English, Maths and ICT skills."

Walsall Adult & Community College has two main campuses in Walsall, at Hawbush Road, Leamore and at Whitehall in Weston Road.
