Councillor Mike Bird has been re-elected

Councillor Mike Bird has been re-elected by the controlling Conservative group as Leader of Walsall Council.

 
The member for Pheasey Park is now in his second year in the post.
 
He said: "I am very pleased to be re-elected as Leader. We will have a difficult 12 months ahead of us but we want to reassure staff and residents that will do all we can for the prosperity of the people of Walsall and the businesses who are based here.
 
"I'm confident we will have some very dedicated people in the cabinet who will work very hard for this borough."
 
Cllr Bird is due to formally appoint his cabinet at the cabinet meeting of May 19.
 
His proposals are for Cllr Adrian Andrew to continue as Deputy Leader and cabinet member for regeneration.
 
Cllr Rachel Andrew is set to continue as cabinet member for children's services, Cllr Tom Ansell as cabinet member for transport and Cllr Chris Towe as cabinet member for finance and personel. Councillor Zahid Ali is set to take on the communities and partnerships portfolio.
 
Councillor Anthony Harris is due to take charge of leisure, culture and the environment portfolio with Cllr Mohammed Arif proposed as cabinet member for business support services and Cllr Barbara McCracken cabinet member for social care, health and housing.
