Historic images of Aldridge and Ordnance Survey maps of the town dating back to the 1880s are now part of an ongoing exhibition in the town after Walsall Local History Centre contributed several new documents.
The exhibition, which runs until the end of March, includes reproduction maps taken from the Collins Bartholomew archive covering everything from Europe through the ages to Britain's railways and plans/maps of famous battles including a very rare plan of the Battle of Waterloo.
The new documents include:-
* Thirty historic photographs of Aldridge
* Ordnance Survey maps of the High Street from the 1880s to 1930s
* Old leaflets and extracts from trade and residential directories
* Documents linked to the Basque refugee children who arrived in Aldridge in the 1930s after being evacuated from their homeland during the Spanish Civil War.
Together with reproductions of historic maps there is a fine art gallery showcasing the work of various artists including Debbie Flenley, Geoff Bannister,Anna Croft, Vic Bowcott and Steve Machin. There is also an education area within the gallery which schools can use for lessons.
Organsied by Mapseeker Archive Publishing the exhibition runs at Aldridge Fine Art and Historic Map Gallery, 24-32 High Street, until the end of March. The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
