Residents are invited to find out more about multi million pound proposals to build the first council homes in the borough for 20 years.
Dudley Council is holding a drop-in session at Pensioners Club, Kent Street, Upper Gornal on Monday March 29 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm for local residents to see the plans for the proposed six property development on land at Tenacre Lane, Upper Gornal.
During the sessions there will also be an opportunity to meet with the council’s housing staff along with the architects, Nichol Thomas.
The development is part of the council’s project to build 81 new council homes after securing £4.3million at the beginning of the year from the government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The 81 homes will be built across five sites including Blackthorn Road, Wordsley, Woodland Avenue and Tenacre Lane, Upper Gornal. Drop-in sessions for each site will be held in coming weeks.

Under the scheme the council will match the funding from the HCA through land and capital contributions. It is intended that a planning application for the five sites will be submitted by April 2010.
All properties will be built to lifetime standards and code level 4 which is an extremely higher environmental standard, which helps reduce CO2 emissions and exceeds what is currently being built in the private and social housing sectors.
The 81 affordable and energy efficient homes include two-storey apartments, bungalows and houses. These will be built for people with general housing needs and some will be designed specifically for people with special needs such as wheelchair friendly bungalows.
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) is the single, national housing and regeneration delivery agency for England. Its role is to create opportunities for people to live in high quality, sustainable places. It provides funding for affordable housing, bringing land back into productive use and improving quality of life by raising standards for the physical and social environment.
