A MAN is due in court next week accused of stealing catalytic converters from cars in the Kingswinford area.
The 19-year-old was arrested on Tuesday morning from an address in Kingswinford on suspicion of theft. The arrest follows a series of alleged thefts of catalytic converters from cars and vans parked around Kingswinford in September and earlier this month.
The teenager was later charged with two counts of theft from a motor vehicle. He has been bailed to appear before Dudley Magistrates Court on 26 October.
West Midlands Police continues to proactively tackle the theft of high-value metal from across the region, as part of Operation Steel, which was re-launched earlier this year.
Metal theft continues to be an issue for the region, particularly across the Black Country, and officers are targeting offenders suspected of involvement in metal theft offences, as well as regularly visiting scrap dealers to remind them of their responsibilities when accepting metal.
Anyone with information with regards to the theft of metal, or those suspected of handling stolen goods, is urged to call their local West Midlands Police station on 0345 113 5000 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
