Authority meeting to consider August disturbances, 27 October 2011
11.30am, Lloyd House Main Committee Room
West Midlands Police Authority will be holding a meeting in public at Lloyd House at 11.30am, on Thursday 27 October 2011, to further consider the August disturbances in the West Midlands, following up on our earlier meeting of 8 September 2011.
There will also be a report on the costs arising from claims under the Riot Damages Act. The Chief Constable is making a presentation, setting out the current state of issues arising from the disturbances and lessons learned, which will be followed by questions from Authority members.
Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe, and if people have questions they would like asked or issues they would like raised, please contact us via our website
Police Authority Chair Derek Webley said, “It is vital that we fully understand the causes of and repercussions from August’s disturbances, so that we can learn lessons. We need to do this openly and transparently, making sure that the West Midlands’ public can see what steps we are taking. I would welcome any members of the public who are thinking about coming along. If there are issues that the Authority should be raising with the police, please let us know.”
West Midlands Police Authority is made up of local people. The Police Authority is responsible for:
· Setting the budget for West Midlands Police Force, including the levels of council tax;
· Determining the strategic direction for local policing through 3 year and annual plans;
· Consulting local people about what they think are the most important things police should be doing and setting priorities in the light of that consultation:
· Setting the force challenging targets to drive performance higher; and
· Continuously monitoring force performance against those targets and regularly reporting to local people on how well the force is doing.
