ELDERLY COUPLE ROBBED ON WAY TO DANCE CLASS

Appeal For Help : ELDERLY COUPLE ROBBED ON WAY TO DANCE CLASS

AN ELDERLY couple have been robbed at gunpoint as they walked to a weekly dance class in the Black Country.

The couple were heading along Chapel Street in Quarry Bank at around 7pm on Saturday 21 November when a man jumped out from a car park, brandishing a gun.

The man, who was wearing a balaclava, demanded they hand over money and threatened them. No shots were fired, but the woman, aged 64, suffered a gash to the head when she was struck by the offender during a struggle between him and his victims.

The woman required stitches to the wound in hospital. Her 71-year-old husband was uninjured but was badly shaken by the incident.

The robber eventually escaped with a bag containing just the couple's dance shoes and a pair of glasses.

Detective inspector Will O'Connor, from Halesowen CID, said: "This is a shocking incident where an elderly couple have been terrified by this man, while going about their daily business.

"To think that the offender is prepared to threaten such a couple with a gun, just to snatch a bag, is worrying and we are determined to find the man responsible.

"We urge anyone in the area who may have seen the man running away from Chapel Street, down Maughan Street, on Saturday night to contact us."

The man is described as 6ft 2in tall, of slim build, wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Anyone with information to help the police investigation should call CID at Halesowen police station on 0845 113 5000 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
