Birmingham man charged with terrorism offences

A 21-year-old man from Saltley in Birmingham has been charged with terrorism offences.

Kamran Ahmed faces six counts of possessing documents or records containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58(1) (b) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He has been bailed to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday May 4.

The charges follow a lengthy investigation by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

Two people who died in Birmingham named as Carl Fearon and Lynette Nock

TWO people who died in Birmingham at the weekend have been named as 24-year-old Carl Fearon and 28-year-old Lynette Nock.

Meanwhile detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths, both of which are, at this stage, being treated as unexplained.

Post-mortems were carried out earlier today (1 May) and both were inconclusive.

Officers now await the results of toxicology tests, which can take a matter of weeks to process.

Carl was found dead at an address in Brindley Drive, Birmingham at around 1:15pm on Saturday (28 April).

Lynette was found collapsed at an address in the Roundabout, Northfield, where a small gathering was taking place, at around 9:04pm on the same day and was taken to hospital where she later died.

M42 closed following fatal collision

M42 Motorway Closed after Fatal Accident

THE M42 BETWEEN junctions 5 and 6 remains closed this morning (Tuesday) as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding a collision in which a driver died.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 4.35am this morning by a member of the public who dialled 999.

Police and other emergency services were immediately dispatched and the driver was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

Witness appeal following fatal collision on M42

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision on the M42 this morning.

Emergency services were called at around 4:35am after a lorry collided with a silver Chevrolet Matiz on the northbound carriageway.

The driver of the Matiz, an 84-year-old man from Wakefield, was taken to hospital where he died a short time later. He has not yet been formally identified.

Two Charged with Bookmaker Robberies

Two men from Birmingham have been arrested and charged with a number of robberies at bookmakers across the West Midlands area.

The men, both aged 34, were arrested by officers from Force CID last Thursday (February 2). Both were charged with six robberies at bookmakers in Birmingham and Sandwell. One of the men was charged with a further three offences of robbery at bookies in Birmingham and Dudley.

The offences occurred between May 2011 and January this year.

Both appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Saturday 4 February and were remanded into custody.
