Walsall Council is continuing to support Streetly residents recover from yesterday's flooding incident.
Officers are this morning (Sunday) visiting all homes affected by flood damage offering residents practical advice and support.
Around 150 properties in Aldridge Road, Limetree Road, Whitethorn Crescent, Yewtree Road, Cherrywood Road, Hazelwood Road, Foley Road West and Wood Lane were affected when a large water pipe fractured flooding the area with thousands of gallons of water.
Council officers worked side by side with South Staffs Water, fire and police throughout the day offering support to residents.
Initially in the immediate hours after the flood, our priority was to ensure residents' personal safety and wellbeing and check all properties were structurally sound.
Structural engineers, pollution control officers and highways staff were on hand to offer assistance. At the same time our social workers carried out door to door checks to offer help, particularly for elderly or vulnerable residents.
On Saturday evening we completed a complete sweep of the roads and we will continue to put whatever help is necessary into clearing up mud and debris left behind by the floodwater.
From Monday onwards additional refuse collections will help residents dispose of flood damaged furniture and other effects.
Traffic engineers have this morning confirmed that Aldridge Road is unlikely to reopen for several days so residents and motorists are advised there may be delays, particularly in tomorrow's rush hour.
Council leader Mike Bird said: "We will continue to offer residents all the help and support we can. I can't praise residents enough for the true spirit and resilience they have shown and I would also like to thank everyone across all the services involved for how they have responded to help residents recover.
“There are a lot of people out and about the area offering assistance, I would just like to remind residents to check the IDs of any visitors they receive during this time.”
