Man in critical condition after Wolverhampton city centre assault

POLICE in Wolverhampton are appealing for witnesses following an incident in the city centre late on Saturday night (15 October).

Officers were called to reports of a fight in King Street, near the junction with Dudley Street, at around 11:55pm.

On arrival they found a 25-year-old man unconscious on the floor.

He was taken to hospital where he received emergency surgery for a serious injury to his brain. It is thought he had been attacked by two or three people.

An investigation has been launched and extensive enquiries are underway to establish exactly what happened.

Detective Inspector Gary Plant, from Force CID, said. "Enquiries to-date would lead us to believe that this was an unprovoked attack on a man who was enjoying a night out in the city centre.

"At the time of the attack Dudley Street would have been a busy area as revellers passed through the town from venue to venue and I am appealing for help from anyone who witnessed the attack or who may hold information that could identify the offenders.

"The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital and we need to find who did this to him."

The attackers are described as two white men in their late 20s. One is described as being around 6 ft tall, of stocky build, with a bald head and a tattoo on his chest. He was wearing a white top.

The second male is described as around 5 ft 8 tall, of average build, with brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a pink top.

A third person, who may or may not be involved in the attack, is described as a black male.

Anyone who has any information about what happened or who saw anything suspicious in the surrounding area is asked to contact Force CID at Bloxwich on 0345 113 5000.

Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
