POLICE in Wolverhampton are appealing for witnesses after three men tried to steal a car while the owner and his child were trying to get in the vehicle.
The attempted robbery happened on Claremont Road, Pennfields on Monday 3 October at around 5:15pm.
The 41-year-old was getting into his black BMW X6 with his two-year-old daughter after picking her up from school.
As they were getting into the vehicle, they were approached by three men.
The men demanded the car keys from the victim, punching him in the chest as they did so.
He handed over the keys and the men got into the vehicle however they were unable to drive it away due to the complex braking system.
All three offenders then ran away down Claremont Road, turning right into Lea Road.
Detective Constable Melodie Rideout, from Force CID, said: "This was a particularly heartless attack where the offenders have assaulted the victim in front of his two-year-old daughter, causing her considerable distress.
"Fortunately they didn't get away with what they wanted, but we still need to catch these individuals and bring them to justice."
The first offender is described as a black male, between 5ft 6 and 5ft 7, in his early to mid 20s, of stocky build, with short black hair. He wore a black hooded top with two tassels from the neckline, black tracksuit bottoms with stripes down the outer legs and local 'gangster' style accent.
The second offender is described as a black male, between 5ft 5 and 5ft 6, in his early to mid 20s, of average build with short black hair. He has dark bloodshot eyes and wore a black puffa square quilted jacket and trainers.
The third offender is described as a black male, between 5ft 10 and 5ft 11, in his early to mid 20s, of stocky build with short black hair. He had a West Indian accent and wore a black top and bottoms.
Anyone who saw what happened or may have seen the offenders fleeing the scene is asked to call Force CID in Bloxwich on 0345 113 5000 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
