Councillor Adrian Andrew, chairman of Barr Beacon Trust and vice-chairman of the Trust Councillor Gary Clarke welcomed everyone to the ceremony.
Councillor Clarke said: "By lighting a beacon we have shown how proud we are of our Queen in Great Britain - and long may she continue to serve."
Councillor Andrew said: "Today we remember the death of King George VI and the Queen's loss as she became monarch 60 years ago.
"I echo Councillor Clarke's comments that she has served us well and we hope she continues for a long time.

Everyone who attended the ceremony will receive a commemorative certificate to mark the occasion.
Both schools will be marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend in June with topic work and celebrations.
