New Yoga class launched at college

A new Yoga class is being launched at Walsall Adult & Community College on Thursday afternoons, starting on 3 November 2011.

The Yoga for Health course will run from 4.30pm to 6pm each week from the college's main Hawbush campus, off Beeches Road in Leamore.

The free course will be led by tutor Emily Bradburn who has been practicing the discipline for 13 years and acquired her Yoga Teaching Certificate from the British School of Yoga (BSY).

"Yoga is excellent for the mind, body and spirit and provides complete relaxation for optimum health & well-being," she said.

"As well as being a helpful antidote for back pain, yoga is also used to help physical, mental and emotional conditions such as anxiety, asthma, arthritis, depression, headaches, lethargy, insomnia and weight gain.

The discipline of yoga was first laid out in writing in the Yoga Sutras over 2,000 years ago. There are about 30 million practitioners worldwide today.

Stephen Rose, programme area leader for Walsall Adult & Community College said: "This is the first time we've offered the Yoga for Health class at the college. Normally you'd expect to pay anything from £8 to £10 per class but because this is being offered through our Adult Safeguarded Learner programme, it's free which is why it's such a good opportunity to try it out."

Places are limited so advanced booking is necessary. Learners are advised to wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a non-slip exercise mat and a comfortable blanket.
