Have you got what it takes to become a volunteer walk leader in Walsall?

Keen walkers who think they could lead a regular walking group are being urged to put their best foot forward and attend a training session in the borough.

Walsall’s Walk On programme is looking for volunteers to lead weekly health walks. Walk leader training is taking place on Friday January 20th at Willenhall Memorial Park, Pinson Road, Willenhall, WV13 2PW

Once trained, volunteers will be able to act as walk leader or back marker on any of the Walsall Walk On sessions and also become eligible to collect Gold Groundmiles.

The role of a walk leader is to lead/back mark weekly health walks in a safe and friendly environment, to help promote Walsall Walk On to local residents and to support fellow volunteers and new walk leaders.

Qualities required for the post include a passion for walking, good communication and organisation skills, a friendly personality, basic admin and record keeping skills, reliable, punctual and committed. Walk leaders must also be over the age of 16.

Once volunteers are trained other training opportunities will become available such as First Aid Training. All walk leaders are covered by Walsall Council’s public liability insurance and are fully supported by the Walsall Walk On project team. Walk leaders are invited to attend monthly support meetings co-ordinated by the project team.
