Walsall's Last Night at the Proms

Walsall Town Hall will be well and truly alive with the sound of music when a Last Night at the Proms concert is staged this weekend.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Walsall, the evening of entertainment on Saturday 17 September will boost funds for the new Walsall St Giles Hospice as well as other worthy local causes.

It will boast Walsall-born international solo soprano Susie Parkes, daughter of Rotary past President Stephen and Ros Parkes.

Joining Susie will be her concert pianist husband Warren Mailley-Smith, Shelfield Male Voice Choir and the Walsall Symphony Orchestra.

Current Rotary President Roy Quinton said: "The club recently donated £50,000 to the hospice to provide an en-suite room for families and we intend to make further donations during my year of office to help with the considerable running costs of the hospice as a whole.

"The Last Night at the Proms is a truly uplifting affair, enjoyed by people of all ages, it has a universal appeal.

"We are looking forward to bringing the house down at Walsall Town Hall and have musicians and vocalists of the highest calibre for this very special evening."

Advance tickets, which cost £10, can be bought at Walsall Central Library and via the box office on 0845 111 2900.

Doors open at 6.15pm for a 7pm start.
